Metric Financial was founded on the principle that investors should keep more of their returns. The narrative that investors struggle with investing because of their behavior is only partially true. Often times, it is high costs and poor advice that contribute to their shortfall. Metric is dedicated to providing a better solution.
As an independent Registered Investment Advisor, Metric Financial is required to be a fiduciary to our clients (of course, we would be anyway). Therefore, we start with a complete financial plan that looks at all of our clients' assets and liabilities. This informs the appropriate level of risk and, in turn, proper asset allocation. All of this is done with an eye towards helping clients reach their goals - from a college savings plan to retiring on time and everything in between.
With more than two decades of financial industry experience, Metric's principal brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to bear. Specifically, the firm has its roots in factor investing, which we believe is the future of investing. These factors offer the potential outperformance of traditional active fund managers while reducing the guesswork and, perhaps more importantly, the costs. Additionally, Metric maintains a network of financial professionals to help our clients with all aspects of their financial lives.
Tim began his career as a paralegal with the law firm of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher, & Flom in New York City in 1994. In 1996, he made a decision to try the field of investing and finance and hasn't looked back. His first role was as a financial consultant with Smith Barney (now Morgan Stanley), but he left that to explore other areas and earn his CFA charter. Tim's passion for factor investing was ignited with a position he held at BlackRock as Head of Equity Product Strategy for US Wealth Advisory. It was there that he first learned of Smart Beta, which eventually led him to the more academically-focused factors. In 2018, after years of educating other financial advisors about them, he decided to take the concept directly to investors and Metric Financial was born.
Jon Hughes joined Metric Financial in May, 2022 and is currently Head of Operations. He resides in West Simsbury, CT and is a graduate of Wayne State University in Detroit, MI where he received a MS in Occupational & Environmental Health. While his professional career focused on workplace safety, he has now pivoted into the financial world. Providing superior service to Metric clients is a personal goal. He enjoys reading, is an Eagle Scout, and has been an Assistant Scoutmaster since 2012 with Troop 175 in Simsbury.
